TeleGrid©

Retaining walls reinforcement

Traditionally, retaining walls have been constructed with concrete or masonry facing, to resist lateral pressure from the soil and the water pressure. By using the principle of reinforced soil the wall can be constructed without external support. Reinforced retaining walls may be built with an inclination up to 90°. The activation of the reinforcement results in a small lateral displacement of the structure.

The facing has therefore a surface protective and an aesthetical purpose.

Parameters such as the height of the wall, the type of filling materials and subsoil, will determine the type of TeleGrid or TeleVev to install on the wall.

Embankments

Reinforcement for embankment bases on soft subsoil is used to increase the safety against underground failure and to reduce the differential settlement of the underground. Embankments are typically constructed with edge slopes of 1:2 to 1:3. Edge slopes may be steepened by using reinforcement.

Due to the horizontal earth pressure in the embankment, shear stress will be mobilized between the embankment and the underground.

Reinforced embankments may be constructed using different kinds of fill materials and in combination with other stabilizing techniques. Geosynthetic reinforcement is frequently used for piled embankments on soft subsoil. The piles may be wooden, steel or concrete pre-made piles or mixed-in-place columns (lime-cement columns). The reinforcement function in this application is to transfer the vertical loads from the embankment to the piles and to oppose the lateral forces from lateral earth pressure in the fill.

Tele Textiles offers you woven geogrids TeleGrid® and high tenacity woven polyester geotextiles TeleVev® for such applications.

Slope reinforcement

Reinforcement in slopes or steep banks may be used for different purposes. The reinforcement is used to build with a steeper slope than what is possible when using natural fill materials. Since natural fill masses may common¬ly be constructed with a natural inclination, reinforced slopes commonly have a steeper inclination.

Basically the design concept of a reinforced steep slope is similar to that used for reinforced retaining walls. The purpose of the reinforcement is to take care of the lateral earth pressure in the soil and to “tie back” the potential failure wedge in front of the potential ultimate failure plane.

TeleVev® and TeleGrid® can be used in such applications.

Road reinforcement

When building a road or a runway on a poor loaded capacity soil, reinforcement is necessary. Several alternatives exist to consolidate the subsoil. Among them, geosynthetics are widely use, mainly thanks to their cost efficiency and easiness of installation.

Our geosynthetics, TeleVev® and TeleGrid®, are aimed to reinforce the subsoil. Their mains advantages are:
• The possibility to build on poor load bearing capacity soils
• Cost-effective
On asphalt reinforcement application, Tele Road® is designed to:
• To reinforce the upper layer of the asphalt
• Extend the pavement life

Railway reinforcement

Every time a railway or even a runway is to be built on a poor load capacity soil, reinforcement is necessary to consolidate it.

Many techniques exist to consolidate the settlement but the easiness of installation and the lower cost make the use of Tele Textiles solutions the most effective solution. The main advantages of our solutions TeleVev©, TeleGrid© are:

• To reduce maintenance costs,
• The ability to build railways on weak soils,
• To increase the lifetime of the railway.
